Self portrait with Termites

I was driving from Tacoma to Southern Oregon when this piece came to me. I was thinking about the novella The Yellow Wallpaper and what an impactful metaphor it was. Then I started thinking about my back and how it was kind of like the peeling wallpaper, but with rot underneath. I remembered termites eating the floor boards in the farm house when I was growing up, and that's how I got here.

It's always a push to break into 3D. I built an entire frame for the portrait (it's life-sized) and quietly screamed when it came time for me to rip the paper. Making the termites was the hardest part, but they brought the whole thing together at last.
