Osteophytosis refers to formations that can develop around damaged joints called osteophytes or bone spurs. These formations are growths of bone into the tissue that can limit movement and cause intense chronic pain.
This piece was a challenge for me. For one reason or another most of my work has centered around natural elements, but this subject had a very clear vision of what she pictured her pain coming from. She told me she could see his face and his "emaciated body" crouched, eating away at her. I did my best to channel her imagination and check in as I went to make sure I got it right. The chunks missing are intended to represent her worst areas of pain.
